Battleborn [year] Preview

Battleborn 2024 Preview

Of all the games we played at Gamescom 2015, Battleborn stood out the most. After all, how many games put you in the shoes of a bowler hat and monocle-wearing robot that lets you bombard your foes with owls? Dubbed as Marquis, he's one of the 25 playable characters (or heroes as the game calls them) in Battleborn.
From a mushroom-like creature that wields poisoned knives to a birdman toting a rocket launcher, Marquis isn't the only unique hero in the game. The variety of characters is explained in Battleborn's backstory. All the stars in the galaxy have been destroyed and only one remains. This resulted in every species in the universe sending their chosen warriors to do battle against the Varelsi – the monster-like race responsible this calamity. It's a premise that allows mushrooms, robots, witches, and elves to go to war together.
Battleborn has been made by Gearbox Software, which is famous for developing the Borderlands games, and bears the companies hallmark..

Rainbow Six Siege Preview: The Unlikely Social Game

Rainbow Six Siege Preview: The Unlikely Social Game

Rainbow Six Siege is the latest tactical shooter in the Tom Clancy universe. Some of Ubisoft's attempts to stage a comeback for the series didn't work out too well, as neither Rainbow 6 Vegas nor Rainbox 6 Vegas 2 were very well received on the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360. With Rainbow 6 Siege though, Ubisoft seems to have finally found the right formula for the series.
The last two Rainbow Six featured a single-player campaign, and Rainbow Six Siege is no different. However, this time around the focus is on multiplayer. Our preview at Gamescom 2015 had us squaring off other game journalists in five on five combat. Much like Team Fortress 2 and Battlefield 4, here too you choose your character class at the start of the match. While we had around 10 classes to choose from, the final game will have 20. Different classes have different powers, such as the ability to wield special weapons such as sledge hammers to breach doors, or electronic jammers to keep your foes at bay.

With Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft having a gargantuan presence at Gamescom 2015 and grabbing most of the attention, it's easy to forget that the PC can hold its own. One such game that bears testament to this is Dreadnought. It's a space combat flight simulator by Yager, the developer known for Spec Ops: The Line.
The game puts you in the role of a captain of a variety of ships, ranging from nimble corvettes all the way up to the titular dreadnought, which is slow but deathly in the hands of a capable player. We spent some time with Dreadnought's deathmatch mode demo at Gamescom 2015, and came back impressed.

One of the biggest pain points in space games is allowing for vertical movement, and letting the player ascend and descend at will. The first thing that hit us when playing Dreadnought was how easy it is to control the ships. In addition to this, each class of ship is easy t..

In most video games, support heroes – the ones that keep the others alive to do the actual fighting – are usually side characters that are usually ignored. Team Fortress 2 is one of the few games where the support characters are a treat to play.
NDTV Gadgets chanced upon Fable Legends on the Xbox One at Gamescom 2015, at Microsoft's showcase and think this action driven take on the RPG series might stand out in this regard as well.

Fable Legends features four heroes versus one villain. The heroes have to face waves of enemies and traps set by the villain. All the main characters are playable through online multiplayer, but you can also play alone with AI partners.
In our preview session we were thrown into the role of Celeste, one of the support classes in Fable Legends, along with two other human players and a third person playing the role of the villain.
Our mission took place in a forest, where we foun..
