10 Big Technology Trends Likely to Emerge in 2016

February 21, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

Predicting the future is a dangerous game. It's easy to speculate and easier still to hope, but what we have to do is carefully look at all the promising developments we've seen in the recent past and then evaluate how we think they'll keep going, and what else they'll lead to. Some companies are kind enough to provide roadmaps and projections, but surprises can pop up out of anywhere, anytime.
We've looked at the state of tech and of the world at large to bring you our list of ten things we think will be significant in the world of personal technology in 2016. From global-scale trends that will shape politics and policy to the individual features of our next smartphones, there's a lot to think about.

Must Read: How a 1985 ‘Computerbabble’ Defined Tech Terms Everyone Knows Today

February 21, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

We know that computers have led to a whole army of developments and changes in the English language. “Friend” is now both a noun and a verb, a “sandbox” can be for developers, and a “tablet” is no longer just an ancient relic.
But not all of these changes are recent: The word “e-mail” has been in the Oxford English Dictionary since 1989, and some basic technological jargon began moving toward mainstream English even earlier than that.
For example, take the following entries from a “Layperson's guide to 'computerbabble,'” published in a 1985 edition of the Toronto-based Financial Post.
The guide promises to allow readers to “cut expertly through the jungle of computerbabble,” and gives a rundown of plain language definitions for the words and phrases that were, at that time, starting to escape into wider use but that were not widely known outside of computer scientist circles.
Although often funny in retrospect, the guide is also surprisingly comprehensive. The definition..

Gionee S6 Review 2026

February 21, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

Gionee has been rapidly expanding its 'Elife S' series off late. It launched the Gionee S Plus in November and has now launched its fourth offering, the Gionee S6. While the two smartphones come with almost identical specifications, the S6 emphasises on a more premium build, as well as support for VoLTE.
The phone is priced at Rs. 19,999 and in terms of product positioning, the Gionee S6 will go up against the Oppo R7 Lite (Review). Let's see how the S6 fares against the competition.
Look and feel
The Gionee S6 doesn't exactly have an identity it can call its own. Unlike a current-gen Motorola phone – which is instantly recognisable due to its iconic design – one could easily mistake the S6 for a smartphone by Huawei or LeEco. To be fair, this is probably true of most offerings launched by Chinese companies these days. Having said that, Gionee has done a good job with the unibody aluminium build and the phone looks pretty good in rose gold. It's comfortable ..

Moto X Force 2026

February 21, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

Smartphone screens are brittle, expensive, and downright depressing when broken. We've heard countless stories of how the smallest drop has shattered a screen, followed by the heartbreak of having to shell out a lot of money for repairs and then having to live with a 'fixed' smartphone. According to Motorola's own statistics, 51 percent of smartphone users have shattered or cracked their display at some point.
Manufacturers have tried to do their part to make such damage less upsetting for customers, such as Samsung's offer of a one-time screen replacement during the first year of purchase. Additionally, Apple may soon accept phones with broken screens as part of its trade-in program. While these may be some consolation to victims of a broken screen, why not dream of better?
That's where the Rs. 49,999 Moto X Force comes in. The phone comes with what the company calls a 'ShatterShield' display, and Motorola assures buyers that the screen of the p..

XCOM 2 Review [year]

XCOM 2 Review 2026

February 21, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is one of the best games in the strategy genre and it's easy to see why. The game had a stellar user interface that would give Jony Ive an inferiority complex, a tough but fair set of game rules, and an addictive flow of events that would have you playing till the wee hours of the morning. Is XCOM 2 a worthy successor?
XCOM 2 takes place 20 years after the events of the first game. The world has surrendered to its alien invaders and XCOM – a clandestine group responsible for the planet's last line of defence – is no more. This has resulted in a dystopian rule quashing any semblance of dissent. However, a force is being amassed to rebel against Earth's extra-terrestrial leaders.

It is an interesting premise, and developer Firaxis has injected enough of a story to keep you invested in the proceedings. The story is neatly meshed with several gameplay elements. Much like the last ..

Hitman Beta Has Good Gameplay but Poor Performance

Hitman Beta Has Good Gameplay but Poor Performance

We are on a boat. Well, a training mission that takes place on a set, akin to how TV shows are recorded, complete with a luxury yacht if we're to be precise. There's a party onboard featuring the wheelers and dealers of the art world.
Dressed up as one of the many waiters on the ship, we overhear conversations about how texting is a new fad, and how the host of the soirée, Kalvin Ritter, is setting himself up for one last heist as an art thief. It's up to us to ensure those plans never reach fruition. While it's far too late to stop sending messages via phones from catching on, we can definitely do something about Mr. Ritter.
Quietly blending in with the hired help, we make our way to his private quarters, set up a remote explosive under his desk, and vault out through a window. Moments later he shows up. As we walk down the ramp of the yacht, a discernible clicking sound is heard followed by a massive explosion that rocks the boat back and forth.

Lenovo Launches Global Wireless Roaming Service

Lenovo Launches Global Wireless Roaming Service

February 22, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

China's Lenovo Group Ltd will launch a global wireless service for its mobile devices to cut roaming costs for its users, it said on Sunday.
The service, called Lenovo Connect, allows users to travel to 50 countries and use their devices at local prices on mobile Internet, without installing new SIM cards, Lenovo said in a statement on Sunday.
For years, roaming or extra charges for the use of telecoms services outside a person's home country have been a source of consumers' ire as many were confronted with high phone bills after returning from holiday.
The European Union has agreed to abolish mobile roaming charges across the 28-country bloc by June 2017, requiring telecom operators to treat all Internet traffic equally.
Lenovo said it could offer the service through its mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) activities, which currently has 11 million users globally.
MVNOs are operators who rent access on bigger rivals' networks and tend to sell cheaper mobile plan..

Samsung Galaxy Tab 750 [year]

Samsung Galaxy Tab 750 2026

May 27, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

On January 27, 2010 Apple boss Steve Jobs introduced the world to a little something called the iPad, and suddenly tablet became something other than what you take when ill. A flotilla of other tablets, mostly Android, followed but failed to crash Apple's party. Samsung, with its original Galaxy Tab starring a 7- inch display and Android Froyo, led the charge but to no avail. A year later, here are the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9, both are running Google's tablet OS, Honeycomb. But are they any different from the slew of Honeycomb tablets already flooding the market?
Packaging and Content
Our jaws dropped when we first saw the packaging – a humongous cube like box. Clearly, size does matter to Samsung. The box could probably fit two full frame DSLR cameras. But we are not complaining! The outsized packaging makes the device supremely secure – so secure, it would probably survive even if thrown out of a moving vehicle. Overall, the packaging was very similar to that of the Galaxy ..
