God of War III Remastered Review: Great for Newcomers, but Not Worth Revisiting

February 18, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

God of War is an exploration of Greek myths, wrapped around a cool, action-packed video game that has been incredibly popular, with different instalments on the PS2, PS3, and now, a remastered version on the PS4.
In God of War, you control Kratos – a rage filled Spartan hellbent on getting revenge on the Gods who have wronged him – by killing off the entire pantheon. The first game was so popular that it spawned a series that includes seven games across the PS2, PS3, PlayStation Portable (PSP), feature phones, and PS Vita. Barring the mobile version that was in 2D, every game in the series sported gorgeous 3D graphics complete with gory combat.

Steelseries Siberia Elite Prism Review: Gaming in Style

Steelseries Siberia Elite Prism Review: Gaming in Style

February 26, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

The growth of the gaming scene in India has led to a massive upsurge in the availability of quality gaming peripherals. One particular segment that has benefited from this is gaming audio. A steady stream of personal gaming audio products has been making its way to the market, including products from top brands such as Kingston, Asus, Razer, and Steelseries.
Speaking of Danish manufacturer Steelseries, one of its latest products in India is the Siberia Elite Prism. At Rs. 16,999, it's a fair bit more expensive than a lot of competing products such as the Kingston HyperX Cloud II and Asus Strix Pro. Unlike Kingston and Asus however, Steelseries is a specialist in gaming peripherals and is closely associated with electronic sports and professional gaming around the world. Does that give the Siberia Elite Prism a leg up over its competitors? We find out in our review.
Design, fit and specifications
The Steelseries Siberia Elite Prism has a frequency response range of 16-28,000Hz, wit..

Acer Iconia B1-A71 2026

February 25, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

Acer created a lot of buzz when it announced its decision to jump into the Budget tablet segment with the Acer Iconia B1-A71, that it first announced during CES, and later, as reported by us, launched it in India at an attractive price of Rs. 7,999. Here's our review of the tablet.

Hardware/ Build & Design
The Acer Iconia B1-A71 is a 7-inch tablet, and accordingly comes in a compact form factor. However, the first thing that you notice about the tablet is that it's very apparent that it's made of plastic. The tablet is light-weight but feels flimsy. The hardware doesn't exude the feeling of durability, and if you put even a little bit of pressure on the screen, you'll see that it creaks and pushes through.
Talking of the design and construction, the front of the tablet has a big black bezel, and the screen peeps through it in a manner similar to a digital photo-frame. The top sports Acer branding at the middle and a VGA camera at the right side. There's a..

Google Nexus 10 review [year]

Google Nexus 10 review 2026

February 22, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

When I first turned on Google's new tablet computer, I immediately thought of it as a mere conduit to Google services.
Besides giving you quick access to Gmail and YouTube, the Nexus 10 steers you to digital movies, books and other content available for sale through Google's online Play store.
Because of that, I wasn't thinking of the Nexus 10 as an alternative to Apple's general-purpose iPad – even with a price tag that's $100 cheaper, starting at $399. It took more thought and time with the Nexus to change that perception. After all, apps available for Android smartphones work on the tablet as well.
Still, the Nexus really shines when it comes to media – especially content bought through Google.
For the past year, Google has been trying to challenge Apple and Amazon by selling digital content.
The Play store is Google's version of iTunes for Apple devices. There, you can get a variety of apps, some free and some for a small fee. You can buy or rent movie..

Counting Sheep That Won't Put You To Sleep

Counting Sheep That Won’t Put You To Sleep

February 21, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

Divide by Sheep is a puzzle game that requires math, advanced planning, and sometimes just a little bit of luck. That description might sound less than exciting, but the game makes up for this by making you drown the sheep, feed them to wolves, slice them to pieces, and generally have some fun with the cuddly critters. Developer Bread Team has created some of the fluffiest looking cartoon sheep in the world, and then gone out of the way to let you torture them with impunity as you ostensibly try and save a few of them from inevitable death. The game has been released now for iOS and Steam, with an Android version in the works.
There's a bit of a story at the beginning of the game, setting things up, but much like Cut the Rope, the exposition is minimal, and safe to skip. The comparison makes sense – while Cut the Rope was a physics puzzler and Divide by Sheep is a series of math puzzles, the two games have a lot in common, such as fiendishly clever gameplay hidden under a very cu..

Batman: Arkham Knight Review - Dark Knight Rises?

Batman: Arkham Knight Review – Dark Knight Rises?

February 19, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

In 2009, video games based on superheroes were categorised as low-rent shovelware. Then, we got Batman: Arkham Asylum. Developed by London-based Rocksteady Studios, the game was a revelation of sorts. It was rare to see a video game being faithful to its source material and yet being so much fun to play.
Six years and four games later, Rocksteady now gives us the last instalment in the series, Batman: Arkham Knight. It again has you in the role of the caped crusader, with occasional jaunts as one of his many allies, including Catwoman, Robin, and Nightwing. And if you ponied up for the pre-order downloadable content (DLC), then you'll also play as Joker's partner in crime, Harley Quinn. While even casual fans of the series will know all those names, you don't need to know much DC lore to get into the game. In fact, Arkham Knight gets you into Batman's cowl and cape in an exceedingly quick fashion, with much less exposition before you start compared to earlier game..

Transistor for iOS Review: As Good as It's on the PC

Transistor for iOS Review: As Good as It’s on the PC

February 18, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

Transistor – made by Bastion creators Supergiant Games – first released in May 2014 for the PlayStation 4 and Windows, followed by Linux and OS X versions in October. Following in Bastion's footsteps, the game was released for iOS devices earlier this month.
We'd played the PC version last year and loved it, so purchasing Transistor on day-one was an obvious choice. But how has it fared in the journey to mobile devices, and should you buy this game for your iPhone or iPad, especially if you haven't played the PC or PS4 version?
Before talking about the porting of Transistor, it's important to get a measure of what this game is, in the first place. If you're already familiar with the game, and just want to know about how it handles on mobile devices, you could just skip the next section of this article. On the other hand, if you're a newcomer to the game, the introduction will help you understand what Transistor is all about, and why you might want to pla..

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Review - Game of Thrones Meets Skyrim

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Review – Game of Thrones Meets Skyrim

February 18, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

The Witcher 3 is a role-playing adventure game that puts you in the role of well, a witcher – a monster hunter – named Geralt. Once you delve past the initial exposition of The Witcher 3 – which has you searching for your surrogate daughter, Ciri – you'll soon realise that developer CD Projekt RED has gifted you a gorgeous, sprawling world to explore.

As we mentioned earlier, the world of The Witcher 3 is brilliantly realised. It's as if the gritty, dark world of Game of Thrones met the open world sensibilities of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, matched with the abundance of choice from BioWare's Dragon Age series.

From slaying fantastic beasts such as werewolves and griffins, to simply dragging a goat – yes a goat, no, not a demon goat, or a were-goat, or a ghost goat, just a regular goat – back to its owner, to tracking down buried treasure, The Witcher 3's quests are medley of varied scenarios,..

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood Review - Old School Is Still Cool

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood Review – Old School Is Still Cool

February 18, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

Last year's Wolfenstein: The New Order was a revelation of sorts. Developed by Sweden-based MachineGames, it was a meaty, well-paced first-person shooter complete with all the classic tropes that harked back to the early days of the genre, such as health packs and secret areas. At the same time, The New Order was refined for the modern era, with an intriguing plot, dollops of atmosphere, and nuanced character development. The game was good enough to make our top picks of 2014.
It's been almost a year since we played The New Order, and now we have Wolfenstein: The Old Blood. It is a prequel to The New Order, and again features the killer of Nazis and occult monsters, William “B.J.” Blazkowicz. Although the Old Blood is an expansion pack to The New Order, it's a standalone game and works even if you don't have the base game.
Also, even if you haven't played a single Wolfenstein game, The Old Blood remains fairly accessible, since it's a prequel, you don&#0..

Asus Strix Tactic Pro and Asus Strix Claw Review: Gaming With Precision

Asus Strix Tactic Pro and Asus Strix Claw Review: Gaming With Precision

February 18, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

PC gaming is serious business, so much so that competitive gamers will do anything it takes to get the headshot every single time. For this reason and more, gamers need expensive mechanical keyboards and gaming mice with high dpi ratings for better precision.
Asus' Strix series of performance gaming hardware, introduced last year, is aimed at such gamers – the kind who carry their own peripherals to a LAN party. Asus sent us the Strix Tactic Pro mechanical gaming keyboard and the Strix Claw gaming mouse for review, and after playing around with them (quite literally) for a while, we have our opinion.
Asus Strix Tactic Pro
Saying the Strix Tactic Pro is packed to the hilt with features would be an understatement. From 21 programmable macro keys to replaceable WASD keys, Asus has gone whole hog with this keyboard.
The Strix Tactic Pro is not as heavy as other mechanical keyboards we've used in the past thanks to the use of plastic in its build. However, it is definitely heav..

Acer Liquid Z630s 2026

February 24, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

After a long hiatus, Acer is taking another shot at the Indian smartphone market with two new budget offerings. The Taiwanese company recently announced the Liquid Z530 and Liquid Z630s Android smartphones, which we first saw at IFA 2015. The new offerings will be sold exclusively through Flipkart and will also be manufactured in India, come December. Acer is testing the waters now and if things pick up, we can expect other models to follow suit.

We've already taken a quick look at it and its smaller sibling in our unboxing video and it's now time to see how this phone stacks up against the competition. In this space, we have plenty of tried and tested options from the likes of Lenovo, Motorola and Asus so let's see if Acer's offering has that special sauce to help it stand out.

OnePlus X [year] Review

OnePlus X 2026 Review

February 20, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

You've probably heard of OnePlus. This small smartphone manufacturer from China was founded less than two years ago by a former vice-president of Oppo and set up shop in India late last year. The company uses an innovative invite-based system for distributing limited quantities of its devices while creating hype and a level of demand that far outstrips the supply. The marketing department of OnePlus is run by absolute geniuses.
Soon after launching this year's 'flagship killer', the OnePlus 2 (Review), the company launched a more budget-friendly model, the Rs. 16,999 OnePlus X. Our initial impressions of the device were that it is essentially a smaller OnePlus One (Review | Pictures). Is this all the 'little' OnePlus is about, or is there more to it? Find out in our review.
Look and feel
Initially (and unofficially) referred to as the OnePlus Mini, the X is smaller and easier to handle than either of the company's previous smartphones. Apart from the ..
