Home | Mobiles | Mobiles Features Dying Husband Left Her the House and Car, but Forgot the Apple Password Yanan Wang, The Washington Post , 21 January 2016 After Peggy Bush's husband, David, succumbed to lung cancer last August, she liked to play card games on their iPad to pass the time. The 72-year-old resident of Victoria, Canada, was on an app one day when it suddenly stopped working, and she was unable to reload the device without providing a password for their Apple ID account.
Bush's husband never told her the password, and she hadn't thought to ask. Unlike so many of the things David had left for Bush in his will – car ownership, the title of the house, basically everything he owned – this digital asset followed him to the grave.
According to reporting by the Canadian Broadcasting Channel, the journey to procure the password proved more difficult than any other process involved in David's passing.
“I thought it was ridiculous,” Bush told CBC. “I could get th..

Gionee Marathon M5 Lite Review 2025

February 16, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

Gionee's mission in the budget smartphone segment has been all about delivering the best battery life possible. Its Marathon series really took off after the company launched the Marathon M4 (Review | Pictures) and more recently, the Marathon M5 (Review | Pictures).
Following up on the success of the latter, we now have the Marathon M5 Lite, which was launched last month. The specifications and features of the newer phone bear a striking resemblance to those of the older M4, only with a newer version of Android and slightly beefed up internals. Although the M4 is still being sold for around the same amount as the M5 Lite, it could replace the older model going ahead.
So which one should you pick right now? Is newer always better? Let's find out.
Look and feel
The Marathon M5 Lite definitely scores more points when it comes to aesthetics. It's slimmer with a more premium look thanks to the new colour and the chrome accents running along its edges. It's slightly ..

Lenovo Vibe X3 Review [year]

Lenovo Vibe X3 Review 2025

February 9, 2016 Richard Gomez 8

Lenovo has been on a bit of a spree, launching a number of new smartphones in quick succession. The company is good at creating models that cater to specific needs, such as the Vibe P1 (Review | Pictures) with its oversized battery, the Vibe Shot (Review | Pictures) for camera lovers, the Vibe S1 (Review | Pictures) for those who care most about looks, and most recently, the Vibe K4 Note for the budget segment. We now have with us the brand new Vibe X3, which takes its place at the top of the heap as Lenovo's latest flagship.
The Lenovo Vibe X3 costs just Rs. 19,999 but packs a number of features and attributes that might make it a competitor to phones that cost way more. The spec sheet alone would give us quite a bit to dig our teeth into, but Lenovo has also tossed in a few things that it says improve the user experience in less tangible ways. We'll have to dig deep to find out if that's just a marketing line or if the Vibe X3 really does blow all its competition away…

Facebook for iPhone a Resource Hog, Removal Boosts Battery Life: Report

Home | Apps | Apps News Facebook for iPhone a Resource Hog, Removal Boosts Battery Life: Report by Manish Singh , 9 February 2016 If you're concerned about your iPhone's battery life, you might want to consider uninstalling the Facebook app from it. Tests have found that removing Facebook's iOS app can increase the battery life of an iPhone by about 15 percent. Additionally, getting rid of Facebook can also free up a lot of data on your iPhone, the test results indicate.
Facebook's Android apps were recently found sipping up a substantial amount of battery life and other resources. And now it appears, Facebook's iOS app is no better. The Guardian ran tests on an iPhone 6s Plus to find that removing Facebook's marquee app improved battery life on the smartphone. Of course, this is not the first time that Facebook's iOS app was found to be causing significant battery issues.
The publication claims that upon removal of the Facebook app, on average, it..

iPhone Error 53: Apple Wants a Monopoly on Repairs, Says iFixit

Home | Mobiles | Mobiles News iPhone Error 53: Apple Wants a Monopoly on Repairs, Says iFixit by Manish Singh , 9 February 2016 Apple is facing heat from furious customers over bricked iPhone models. For more than a year, the Cupertino-based company has been disabling iPhone models upon detecting an unauthorised or third-party service on the smartphone, specifically related to Touch ID or Apple Pay components. The company says it does so only to ensure that a user's security isn't compromised. But the issue goes far beyond that, says gadget-repair site iFixit, adding that Apple wants a monopoly on iPhone repairs by blocking third-party repair services.
Kyle Wiens, co-founder of iFixit, has refuted Apple's claim that the iPhone is only disabled when a third-party uses non-genuine parts as the replacement for various iPhone components. Talking to Gadgets 360, Wiens noted that the 'Error 53' issue occurs with genuine Apple parts as well.
“For the record, the iss..

Nokia 230 Dual SIM Internet-Enabled Feature Phone Launched at Rs. 3,869

Home | Mobiles | Mobiles News Nokia 230 Dual SIM Internet-Enabled Feature Phone Launched at Rs. 3,869 by Ketan Pratap , 30 December 2015 Microsoft has unveiled the Nokia 230 Dual SIM feature phone in India. Priced at Rs. 3,869, the Internet-enabled feature phone is now available to buy via the company's official store.
Unfortunately, there is still no word on the availability of the single-SIM Nokia 230 phone. Last month, Microsoft had promised that the Nokia 230 (and Nokia 230 Dual SIM) will be launching in India this month. Considering that the Microsoft's official site lists the Nokia 230, we can expect the company to launch the model soon.
At the global launch, Microsoft had touted the Nokia 230 and Nokia 230 Dual SIM as 'premium quality Internet-enabled feature phones.' One of the biggest highlight of the Nokia 230 Dual SIM is that it sports a 2-megapixel front and rear cameras. Both cameras pack LED flash modules. Another notable feature of the Nokia 230 Dual ..

Dell Venue 7 Review [year]

Dell Venue 7 Review 2025

March 2, 2019 Richard Gomez 0

We were fairly impressed with the Dell Venue 7 and Venue 8 which we reviewed almost exactly a year ago. Dell has only just decided to get serious about the Android tablet world, and despite some flaws, the first two Venue models were pretty good for their asking prices. In the time since then, Dell has launched an updated model in India. These were first shown off at Computex 2014, and are currently available in our market.
The big new thing this time is the inclusion of voice calling. A lot of people feel that if you're going to have a SIM card for cellular data, you might as well be able to make and receive voice calls. On the other hand, there's the staggering impracticality of holding a 7-inch tablet up to your face or plugging in a headset every single time the phone rings. Dell has left the choice up to the buyer, and so versions of the 2014 Venue 7 (and Venue 8) with and without voice and data are available. We have the voice-enabled 2014 Dell Venue 7 in for review tod..

HP 7 VoiceTab Review [year]

HP 7 VoiceTab Review 2025

February 23, 2019 Richard Gomez 0

HP seems to be focusing on the voice-calling tablet market with its VoiceTab line of products. We saw the launch of HP's previous range in this category early last year, and the HP Slate6 VoiceTab (Review | Pictures) didn't receive a favourable opinion from us.
Moving forward, HP's newest voice-calling Android tablet, the HP 7 VoiceTab, is a 7-inch tablet as its name suggests. You won't need to break a bank to purchase one since it costs less than Rs. 10,000. Here's hoping that HP has learnt a thing or two from its previous mistakes.
Look and feel
The HP 7 VoiceTab looks and feels like a sturdy device, which is great since the Slate6 VoiceTab had poor build quality. Made entirely of plastic, the HP 7 VoiceTab is quite chunky at 10.2mm thick and 305g in weight. Even so, the bezels are fairly thin, making the HP 7 VoiceTab feel more compact than some other 7-inch tablets we've used in the past.
Thanks to its soft matte rear, the HP 7 VoiceTab doesn't ..

iPad Air 2 [year] Review

iPad Air 2 2025 Review

January 2, 2019 Richard Gomez 0

This year, unlike the iPhones that went through a plethora of changes in design, the world's most popular line of tablet computers – iPad Air – only received an incremental facelift. The latest iPad now features Apple's proprietary Touch ID fingerprint sensor on the home button which was introduced with the iPhone 5s. Otherwise, the design language remains almost untouched save for a few changes.
While not much has changed in the overall appearance of the iPad Air 2, it is now just 6.1mm thin; this actually makes it 1.4mm slimmer than its predecessor, and more importantly it also undercuts the thickness of both the iPhone 6 (Review | Pictures) and the iPhone 6 Plus (Review | Pictures). We'll let you take a moment for that to sink in. One of the reasons this is possible is that Apple's engineers have managed to reduce the gap between the protective glass, touch sensor and the actual LCD. This 'no-gap display' has been carried over from the iPhones.
The int..

Micromax Canvas Tab P666 [year] Review

Micromax Canvas Tab P666 2025 Review

February 18, 2019 Richard Gomez 0

Lots of people think that phones with 5.5-inch and 6-inch screens are too big, but that hasn't stopped companies from pushing ever further. The Micromax Canvas Tab P666 is an 8-inch smartphone – or more accurately, an 8-inch tablet that can be used to make voice calls. We can't imagine why anyone might want to use it as a phone, risking public ridicule and sprained wrists – maybe the logic is that since you have a SIM card slot anyway for 3G data, you might as well be able to use cellular networks for voice and messaging as well. Ridiculous or not, the functionality is there.
That aside, the Micromax Canvas Tab P666 is an otherwise ordinary Android tablet with a low price and entry-level specifications. Let's see if it's worth buying.
Look and feel
The most unique thing about the Canvas Tab P666 is its design. The device itself is fairly slim at 7.9mm, but its weight and blocky shape aren't great in terms of grip and comfort. There are two metal strips running ..

iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3 [year]

iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3 2025

November 18, 2018 Richard Gomez 0

If I've seen you taking photos with a tablet computer, I've probably made fun of you (though maybe not to your face, depending on how big you are). I'm old school: I much prefer looking through the viewfinder of my full-bodied, single-lens reflex camera, even though it has a large LCD screen.
But as I tested out Apple's new iPad Air 2, I see why people like to shoot pictures with a tablet. Images look great on the large screen, and there's less guesswork about whether or not small details, such as lettering on a sign, will be in focus.
And what you see – and get – with the iPad Air 2 is a better camera. The rear one now matches the iPhone's 8 megapixels, up from 5 megapixels, and incorporates features such as slow-motion video. Packed with a faster processor, the 9.7-inch tablet is also 18 percent thinner and 7 percent lighter than the previous model, at about a quarter of an inch and just under a pound.
Apple is also updating its 7.9-inch iPad mini, thoug..
