Samsung, at its Southwest Asia Forum 2016 in Kuala Lumpur, announced details of its new Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 2016 edition smartphones for the Indian market. The handsets were first unveiled last year in China, though the company had not disclosed anything about the availability of the two refreshed models outside China at that time.
The Galaxy A series was first launched in late 2014, and now the South Korean giant claims that it has contributed to increase in its worldwide 4G market share, along with the J-series. According to Samsung, its share in 4G devices increased from 25.9 percent in December 2014 to 60.6 percent in December 2015. The company however declined to share exact numbers.
We spent some time with both the new Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 2016 edition smartphones at the launch event and here are our first impressions.
At the press briefing in Kuala Lumpur, Samsung stressed that the new generation Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 are designed using glass and metal. This was evident..

Le 1s 2025 Review

February 8, 2016 Richard Gomez 8

LeEco (the company formerly known as LeTV) is the latest to join the long, long list of Chinese smartphone manufacturers trying their luck in India. The company doesn't have any of the advantages of being an early mover, and no matter how shockingly low it can push prices, it won't be the first to be doing so. Still, there's a lot to like about the Le 1s, which is quite full of interesting features considering its budget price tag.
LeEco hasn't gone only for impressive specifications; it's clearly trying to achieve a level of desirability, as you can immediately see from the Le 1s's metal body. While the much more expensive Le Max (Review | Pictures) took on the might of mainstream flagships and came up looking just a little short, LeEco is hoping that the Le 1s will have much wider appeal.
Look and feel
There's only so far you can go with specifications, and so LeEco has decided to bring premium materials and build quality to the budget smartphone sp..

Home | Cameras | Cameras Reviews Canon PowerShot SX60 HS Review: Big Zoom, Average Performance by Ershad Kaleebullah , 14 February 2015 For those who don't want to deal with the learning curve generally associated with DSLR cameras, a high-end compact makes the most sense. While these cameras cannot actually capture DSLR-quality images, they pack in a ton of features for a price that is more pocket-friendly.
Some of these cameras have SLR-like designs and amazing zooming capabilities. We have with us the Canon PowerShot SX60 HS, which is the world's first compact camera with a 65x optical zoom lens. Canon also adds the latest Digic 6 processor into the mix. Let's find out if the SX60 HS can wow us with its image quality.
Design and screen
Thanks to the really long optical zoom lens, the Canon PowerShot SX60 HS feels heavier and chunkier than most other super-zoom cameras in the market today, including its predecessor the SX50 HS. It has dimensions of 127.6×92.6×14.3mm ..

Home | Wearables | Wearables News Samsung Patent Hints at Smartwatch That Scans Veins to Verify Identity by Gadgets 360 Staff , 8 February 2016 Until now, we have seen several ways tech companies have made their smart devices capable of recognising users, from face recognition, fingerprint sensors, voice recognition, and even iris scanners. Now a newly published patent suggests Samsung to go even deeper inside a human body for recognition. The patent hints towards a future smartwatch that could use our veins for identity verification.
In the patent published by the USPTO titled “Wearable Device and Method of Operating the Same”, the company describes a method to identify users that takes a scan of the registered user's vein layout, and then compares it to the layout of the person trying to authenticate themselves in the future.
“A wearable device comprising: a sensor configured to capture a vein image of a user; and a processor configured to: in response to a function or an appl..

Home | Mobiles | Mobiles News Nokia Smartphone With All-Metal Body Leaked in Images by Robin Sinha , 22 January 2016 Few images showing an all-metal Nokia smartphone has popped up on the Web, making it one of the devices the company might launch this year. It is worth mentioning that the non-compete clause in the Microsoft-Nokia buyout prevents the Finnish tech firm from releasing smartphones under the Nokia brand ended on December 31, 2015.
To note however, Nokia executives have previously confirmed that the terms of the agreement stipulate that Q4 2016 is the soonest Nokia can release a smartphone – indicating the non-compete clause was extended without public announcement.
Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri had in July last year confirmed the company's plans to re-enter the mobile market, and said it will sign an agreement with a manufacturer which will be responsible for manufacturing, distribution, and sales of its smartphones. The Finnish company followed the same strategy with the N1 ..

Home | Telecom | Telecom News Nokia Bid for Alcatel-Lucent Goes Through: French Regulator Agence France-Presse , 4 January 2016 France's stock market regulatory body said Monday that Finnish telecom group Nokia's all-share offer for French-American rival Alcatel-Lucent had been successful.
Nokia now holds around 76 percent of shares and voting rights in Alcatel, the French financial market authority, AMF, said in a provisional report.
It said the “minimal condition” for Nokia to control at least 50 percent of shares and voting rights had been “satisfied”.
“The offer therefore is proceeding positively,” the French regulator said, adding that its final report was due Tuesday at the latest.
Once the world's top mobile phone maker, Nokia hopes the merger will help it become the world's number one network equipment and service provider.
The acquisition will allow Nokia to expand from telecoms networks to Internet networks and “cloud” services to better compete with its g..

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 LTE Review 2025

February 11, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

Apple has been king of the hill in the premium tablet segment ever since the original iPad launched back in 2010. We've seen some decent attempts from the Android camp over the years, but none have managed to create that “must-have” craze Apple has so successfully been able to achieve. Samsung wishes to change this with its newly launched Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 tablet. This is the successor to the Galaxy Tab S, which the company launched last year.

In India, Samsung has decided to test the waters first by launching only a single model from the new Galaxy Tab S2 series – the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 LTE. At Rs 39,400, the tablet goes up against the HTC Google Nexus 9 and the Apple iPad Air 2. So, has Samsung made a product compelling enough for you to choose it over the obvious choice? Let's find out.
Look and Feel
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 gets a much-needed upgrade in the build and aesthetics department. Compared to last year's model, which was made of plastic, the Galaxy Ta..

Micromax Canvas Tab P690 Review: Only for Entertainment

February 9, 2016 Richard Gomez 7

Low-cost Android tablets are fairly common, but with 5-inch and 5.5-inch smartphones becoming increasingly common, the case for having yet another device in your life has become somewhat less clear. Devices like this are great for reading and browsing the Web on if you have one lying around, but chances are if you have a smartphone, tablet and laptop, the tablet is the most likely to be left behind.
Micromax has a new offering, the Canvas Tab P690, which is trying to find a space in users' lives. It has an 8-inch screen and offers cellular voice calling for those who might use such a feature. The cost is low enough to be tempting, and the company advertises loads of freebies in the form of physical accessories as well as software. Let's see what you might have to gain by owning one of these.
Look and feel
The Canvas Tab P690 looks rather nice at first glance. It isn't all that slim but it does have bold, distinctive lines including chiselled edges around the rear. The fr..

iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus

February 9, 2016 Richard Gomez 7

Don't let looks deceive you.
The new iPhones look the same as last year's models on the outside. But changes on the inside matter, from camera improvements to new sensors that enable quicker access to tasks.
I had only about 90 minutes to try out the new Apple products unveiled Wednesday – not enough time, given that Apple Inc. has a larger iPad, a new Apple TV device and new software for the Apple Watch, alongside the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. I wasn't able to test the new iPhone cameras in natural settings, for instance, to say whether pictures are really better with 12 megapixels, instead of 8 megapixels in the previous iPhones.
(Also see: iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus With 3D Touch Display Launched)
But I was able to try 3D Touch, a new way to interact with the iPhone. You save a few taps by pressing and holding on an app icon to go directly to a particular function. Microsoft's Windows phones let you create shortcuts as home screen icons, but few people ..

Homido Mini Is a Cheap VR Headset That's Even Simpler Than the Google Cardboard

Homido Mini Is a Cheap VR Headset That’s Even Simpler Than the Google Cardboard

February 11, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

The Homido Mini is a small, easy to use, and extremely portable virtual reality 'headset' for mobile devices that works with apps that support Google Cardboard. It's reasonably cheap, and you can use it to very easily showcase VR experiences without having to carry around a large boxy cardboard headset, which makes it a great buy if you're interested in virtual reality.
Getting into virtual reality has never been easier thanks to smartphone-powered VR headsets. Although a full-fledged VR setup is expensive – for example, the Oculus Rift will cost you $599 to pre-order (roughly Rs. 39,500) – mobile setups are significantly cheaper.

The Samsung Gear VR has launched at Rs. 8,200 in India and is available elsewhere at $99 (approximately Rs. 6,700). But aside from that, there are also a number of Google Cardboard headsets. You can get these online for prices ranging from roughly Rs. 200 for basic c..

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam Review

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam Review

March 9, 2016 Richard Gomez 0

Nintendo is no stranger to bringing characters from its varied universes together. We've seen this in every console generation with the Super Smash Bros. series, where Pikachu can square off against Mario, and Link from Legend of Zelda can trade blows with Luigi.
This time around, it extends the crossover to two subsets of the Mario franchise, Paper Mario, and Mario & Luigi. The former game sees everyone's favourite plumber rendered in a gorgeous papercraft aesthetic as he sets off to save Princess Peach and perhaps the world as well. The latter game has Mario and his brother Luigi sharing the limelight as they try well…save Princess Peach, who after so many games spanning back decades, should really know better than to get kidnapped yet again.
Nonetheless, these themes persist in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, albeit with a twist. Characters from Paper Mario, complete with their origami stylings find themselves in the world of Mario & Luigi. Which means that Princess Peach an..
